Brent Huffman DirectorThe IAFOR Documentary Film Award is delighted to announce the winner of the IDFA Honorary Award for 2015. The 2015 IDFA Honorary Award goes to Professor Brent E. Huffman.

Professor Huffman has been making social issue documentaries and environmental films for more than a decade in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. His films have gone on to win numerous awards including a Primetime Emmy, Best Conservation Film-Jackson Hole, Best Documentary-Fresno and many more. His body of documentary work and his dedication to raising awareness around several important social and environmental issues throughout the world has also made Mr. Huffman the recipient of this year’s IDFA Honorary Award.

As a director, producer and cinematographer of documentaries and television programs, Professor Huffman’s work has aired on the Discovery Channel, The National Geographic Channel, NBC, CNN, PBS and Al Jazeera. He has also participated in Sundance Film Festival premieres and has made ethnographic films for the China Exploration and Research Society.

Professor Brent Huffman is also an Assistant Professor at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University where he teaches documentary production and theory.

Saving Mes Aynak’, Huffman’s most recent documentary, follows Afghan archaeologist Qadir Temori as he races against time to save a 5,000-year-old Buddhist archaeological site in Afghanistan from imminent demolition by a Chinese state owned mining company. The documentary examines the conflict between cultural preservation and economic opportunity through the lens of Qadir Temori and his fellow archaeologists.

As part of his celebrating Mr. Huffman’s many accomplishments, his dedication to the craft of documentary and receipt of the IDFA Honorary Award, ‘Saving Mes Aynak’ will be the Featured Documentary screened at the IAFOR Documentary Film Award and festival held in Kobe, Japan this November.
